Norfolk’s School Board Election

Norfolk Schools Board Of Election:  MAY 1, 2018

GMW,  We as voters often do not know our elected school board member’s name or responsibilities, and turnout in local school board elections is usually very low. On my May 1, 2018 we are going to change that by being informed  and voting with knowledge for the sake of our children and teachers.

Your school board is your community’s education watchdog, ensuring that taxpayers get the most for their tax dollars.

  1. Public education is a $423 billion business.
  2. School boards have taxing authority.
  3. Direct oversight—and responsibility—should not be given to politicians whose first priority is something other than education.
  4. if those schools are not producing, it’s our rights and responsibilities to select new board members who will see to it that our students and our schools succeed.

The Norfolk School Board has five (5) seats up for election, with 12 excellent  candidates  running. In order for us to do our part in making sure we put the right candidate in those seats we need to really know who they are.

Those seats are in ward 1 thru 4, and today we will meet the 2 candidates in Ward One (1).

Our children can no longer afford for us to do business as  usual. We have to change the rules, by putting people at the tables to address our issues, and we must hold them accountable. In order to accomplish this we have to be engaged, starting with being at the polls, May 1, 2018.  Using the power of our vote.

EXCESSIVE FORCE

Grandmothers, Mother and Women  (GMW), I’ve been trying to understand why Police Officers  are using excessive power when dealing with my children of color.

A man smiling for the camera in front of a bed.
Target Practice

Starting in New York in 1999, with The shooting of 23 years-old-Amadou  Diallo occurred on February 4, 1999. four  (4) officers fired a combined total of 41 shots killing him for having a wallet that looked to them like a gun. All four officers were charged with second-degree murder and acquitted at trial. This scenario of my sons and daughters being killed has to stop.

This scenario of my sons and daughters being killed by the police when a wallet or what is now a cell phone, carried by all of our children, but it appears, mine are the only one being killed by excessive force for having something in their hands that appears to be a gun when it is simply a phone.

I’m sure this scenario has not been lost on any of us. When the young man was apprehended for killing the 17 students in Parkland Florida, it was known he had an AkA-15 or 47 but no shots were fired at him. I have observed, as I’m sure everyone else has, when my white sons has been apprehended by the police for the same scenarios they have not been shot at excessively. WHY?

Someone I respect tremendously made an observation this past week regarding The police shooting range equipment. It’s verifiable that standard police and NRA shooting range equipment is the same: A white background with the body silhouette of a black man.A black and white target with the silhouette of a woman.

North Miami Police use photos of black teens for shooting A series of photographs showing the faces of men.practice. The police chief Scott J. Denison says there is nothing wrong with this practice.

Gmw, I think it’s time we advocate for a change in shooting range equipment. Maybe it should be reversed. This will force officers to use discernment, when the practice target looks differently. will officers of color use excessive force?

When some officers see black, they go into shooting range practice,  and the law exonerates them, because they feared for their lives.  When their brother of color seem them, they run because, they fear for their lives, and get shot in the back, with a phone in their hands. This is a scary scenario,  we send our sons and daughters out into the world on a daily basis with their cell phones, mostly in their hands or on their person.

What makes this so difficult, is the 2 white Louisiana officers in the black man’s fatal shooting won’t be charged, even though they had him on the ground face-down, he was no threat to them, other than his black life did not matter.

But, to me and my Black children,†BLACK LIVES MATTER.” AS MUCH AS THE 17 LIVES IN PARKLAND, FL., mattered.  We all hurt for the senselessness loss of our children lives by guns.

GMW, Colin Kaepernick was blacklisted from the NFL because of his stance for black lives matter, and everyone knows it. Has  any of you wondered, ” what would have happened to Tom Brady or Eli Manning, had they done the same thing.

Would some owner have found a place for them, quarter -backing in the NFL. I cut my football teeth on Broadway Joe and the New York Jets, became a die hard  Jets and football fan.  but, 2017 was the first time I didn’t watch football since 1968. It became a bad taste in my mouth.

To all grandmothers, mothers and women (gmw) I’m not trying to play the: “the race card” we just need to realistically look at the Privilege  Elephant  in the room, plus the one in our Oval Office.

Our children from birth to 29 has a much better view of reality. My generation endured the horrors of the Civil Rights Movement and the war in Viet Nam.  We have a generation between us, who supported Bernie Sanders and opted out of voting in 2016 and we got #45.

Now I’m hoping they exonerate themselves and choose a president from their ranks for 2020.  We don’t need any more presidents running for office who’s over 65; I’m over 65.

To my White Sisters, Mothers of color, love their children just as much as you love yours, and we fear for them so much more because of the deadly animosity our sons has for each other.

So, what do you think about YOUR SON’S FACE, being us for target practice by N. Miami Policeman’s Department.  And all other Police departments and the IRA using a black background and the body of a White Frame as target?

GMW Our sons are afraid of each,  and we have to find a way to save both. We gave them life and brought them into the world. They are  great men in and out of uniform. Two police officers standing next to each other.

The easy access to guns does not help us, or make life easier for them.A group of police officers walking down the street.

Saving America

ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS

Grandmother, mother and women (gmw), On This 34th day of Lent, Number 45 is really showing where is loyalty lie. He congratulated a Russian dictator on his reelection disregarding America’s  alliance to the UK,  the direction of his cabinet and country.

A picture of the united states with a quote from satan.
Action Speaks Louder Than Words

He looks like a traitor to America because, it appears, as if Mr. Putin has something on him, whatever that is, it’s appears to be more important than his country and the American People.

Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell,  Heads  of the house and senate are beginning to behave as if  Mr. Putin has something on them, or is it they are afraid of their base. I can understand them listening to their base because  it  gave them a majority in the house and senate, even though it was with the aid of gerrymandering.

Mr. Trump on the other hand, base is not enough to win in any national election. The  Electoral College of 304 votes put him in the Oval Office but that will never happen again. I’m hoping  it never happens again for any Presidential Election. His base vote was only 62 million against 65 millions  popular vote, America’s choice.

GMW: These views are mine regarding the Electoral College.  I’m not trying to speak on your behalf in this particular case. I know I sound like Donald Trump with his “Birtha Theory,” perusing the idea that Barack Obama was not born in America;  when the rest of the country had moved on satisfaction.  My argument that number 45 got in the Oval Office by 304  votes of the electoral college is valid, based on our constitution. If I’m wrong, I would greatly appreciate someone enlighten me.

To the leaders of the house and Senate, the country is looking to you, to stand up for America. We charged you  to ensure, Mr. Mueller has no interference from number 45 regarding his instigation and they should take leadership insuring he is not fired.    Mr. Trump’s  treasonous behavior again America calls for impeachment proceedings. Now!  Mr. Ryan and McConnell, you need to use the pot or get up off it.  You are allowing the swamp to overrun the land.

We will continue praying for our country, while getting involved in our community, There are 475 women running for office in the 2018 election. We must be ready  to use our power effectively  to bring unity and Bipartisan Leadership to America in November 6, 2018A young boy is praying in front of other children.

Mitch McConnell And Paul Ryan  Should Be Ashamed Of Them Selves For allowing # 45 To Destroy Our Country’s Reputation,  They Know Presidents Don’t Behave As #45.  They should have rallied their houses and protect our democracy.

National Health Emergency, has not solve the problem, it has increased. until this country realize all of it children and citizens are equally important. We, (and I mean we) are not going to solve the problems of, gun, drugs and suicide. There’s a grassroots solution that we have to work out as American. We have to use our strength of character, faith, principals, values and commonsense, to not become addicted to opioid or any Addictive Substance.

In response to the opioid crisis, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is focusing its efforts    on five major priorities:

  1. improving access to treatment and recovery services
  2. Promoting use of overdose-reversing drugs
  3. Strengthening our understanding of the epidemic through better public health surveillance.
  4. Providing for cutting-edge research on pain and addiction.
  5. Advancing better practices for pain management.

October 16, 2017 I  had total knee replacement surgery and was given opioid for pain, which was so severe I decided, “if my other knee goes bad, I will die with.” But by November 1, 2018 I decided to take myself off of opioids and take IBUPROFEN 800MG, which contains no opioids, I knew myself well enough to know I could become dependent on opioids, and distort the reality, “of did I really need it for the pain or the Euphoric Thrill. I decided not to take the chance. I think we need to start trying to take more responsibility for our behavior. Our children are watching us, do as I say, not as I do, doesn’t work.

America Is The Guns:   The US spends less than one penny on gun violence research for every person shot dead in   America — here’s how that compares to other causes of death. A graphic showing the number of gun incidents in 2 0 1 3.

The 2nd Amendment Rights are not in danger, but our children are

  1. The US spends less money on gun violence research than it does on virtually any leading cause of death in America.
  2. New research suggests that’s having a crippling effect: policy makers don’t have enough evidence about what works when it comes to gun control.
  3. The only thing researchers can say with much confidence is that safe guns storage laws keep more children alive.

We must treat gun violence in this country as a public health crisis, because it is. … America is violent and A woman holding up a sign that says am i next ?the gun is a preferred instrument of that …

Suicide Crisis In America

America’s Suicide Crisis: Life Expectancy Declines for First Time Since 1930 Because So Many Commit Suicide:

As Aaron Kheriaty writes in First Things, the suicide crisis in America has reached epidemic proportions. Rates are growing coast to coast, in rural and urban areas, among the poor and the rich, the young and the old. What in the world is going on, and what do we do about it?.

Why are America’s farmers killing themselves in record numbers?

A man in blue shirt wearing red hat near fence.
Despair & Depression

The suicide rate for farmers is more than double that of veterans. Former farmer Debbie Weingarten gives an insider’s perspective on farm life.

She states, “I did not get to write about the rancher whose hair fell out in clumps because of stress. The widow whose farm was foreclosed on in the 1980s even though they had never missed a payment. The farmer who fell to the ground and sobbed when his cows were taken to auction.â€

But in the end, Kheriaty boils the problem down to one word: Despair, Despair, as in the utter lack of hope.
