The Norfolk Public school board consists of seven members elected to three-year terms. Five seats are up for general election on May 1, 2018.
What do school boards do? The school board’s primary responsibilities are to:
- Set the vision and goals for the district
- Adopt policies that give the district direction to set priorities and achieve its goals.
- Hire and evaluate the superintendent.
- Manage the collective bargaining process for employees of the district.
Grandmothers, mothers and women, (gmw). To repeat a statement made by the Bolder Valley School Board in Colorado, ” The most accurate analyst of a student’s achievement in school is not income or social status, but the extent to which that student’s family is able to:
(1) create a home environment that encourages learning.
(2) communicate high, yet reasonable, expectations for their children’s achievement and future careers.
(3) become involved in their children’s education at school and in the community.”
Ward 1- includes the following precincts: Ocean View School, Second Presbyterian, Northside, Titustown, and Granby.
Nicole Carry and Adale Martin are running in the general election for ward 1 of the Norfolk School District.
Ward 2–includes the following precincts: Wesley, Suburban Park, Willard, Stuart, Larchmont Library, Larchmont School, Lamberts Point, Park Place, Taylor Elementary, Maury, Ghent Square, and Chrysler Museum.
Incumbent Tanya Bhasin, Nathaniel Kinnison,and Brittany Shearer are running in the general election for Ward 2 of the Norfolk Public School .
Ward 3 includes the following precincts: Rosemont, Lafayette Winona, Norview, Tanners Creek, Sherwood, Ballentine, Lindenwood, Union Chapel, Coleman Place School, Broad Creek, Sherwood.
Ronel Brewer, Carlos Clanton, and Jackie Glass are running in the general election for ward 3 of the Norfolk Public School Bd.
Ward 4 includes the following precincts: Young Park, Ruffner Academy, Brambleton, Berkeley, Campostella, Chesterfield, Ingleside, Poplar Halls, Easton, Fairlawn, Lake Taylor, and Barron Black.
Bonita Anthony, Leon Rouson, Christine Smith, and Alfreda Thomas are running in the general election for Ward 4 of the Norfolk Public School District.
